Spent two weeks weaving on a punch-card jacquard loom set up for weaving velvet. The threads for the loops or cut pile are on weighted spools at the back of the loom, allowing different lengths to be used as needed. I enjoyed manipulating the punch-cards and seeing how many variations it was possible to weave from the same data. Brass rods, either solid or with a small groove for cutting, are inserted and either pulled out after further rows of weaving the base cloth or carefully cut with a blade in the small brass tool. My thanks to the team at Lisio!
