The Water Series captures a transitory moment in each piece, a grounded but fluid experience translated into material form. The translations of place, especially the space between land and water have been a subject of my work for some years. Woven on a special jacquard loom setup in which the majority of the colour is fixed in the warp, these threads are structurally combined to create new blends and optical mixes. Proximity and distance plays a new role in viewing, as is experienced in the original location source. The mood of light and location is distilled and processed: from a digital photograph elements are selected and converted by the artist through specialist textile software, then woven on a hand jacquard loom. Place is represented not through fixed, recognizable landmarks, but capturing a temporality, a memory, rendered as material.
