Residency at the Textilmidstod / Icelandic Textile Centre, Blönduós, Iceland
September 2019
I spent one month at the Icelandic Textile Centre, working with the TC2 digital loom, in a wonderful house studio overlooking the Blanda river and ocean. Icelandic sheep, wool processing and unique products made from wool also formed part of the research, including visiting the mini-mill Uppspuni, and attending a farmers' sheep sorting day.
My aim was to work with textures in weaving inspired by the Icelandic landscape of lava and snow,  and the impact of global warming on the glaciers. This was done through test weaving with wool, cotton, paper years, and linen in different combinations and resulted in three finished pieces based on glacial melt.
